A code has been given for three of these four words. The codes are NOT in the same order as the words and one code is missing. You need to work out the code rules.
RAIL LEAK BIKE ABLE
7546 2153 1736
How do I work out the code rules

RAIL LEAK BIKE ABLE
7546 2153 1736

Find something two of the words have in common - e.g. 2 end with an E. Look to see whether any of the number strings end with the same number - yes, they do, so

6 = E

BIKE has a B in first place, ABLE has the B in second - the two words that end with 6 are 7546 and 1736 so

7 = B
1736 = ABLE
1 = A
3 = L
7546 = BIKE
5 = I
4 = K

2153 = _AIL - must be RAIL

so LEAK must be 3614

(I hope ;-) )

I favour looking for some link between the number codes given, rather than between the words given. One of the words given is not represented in the codes, so you waste time looking at that word if you start with the words.

In this case two of the number codes end in 6, so looking at the words 6 must be E. Then everything follows as aliportico has so neatly explained.

Try both methods on a few questions and see which works best for your child.
