VR sequence question

Unable to figure this one out. Please help.
What is the next term in the sequence 1, 1, 2, 6, 14, 26, ___?

Please tell me this isn't the St. Olave's paper again?

I can see a few connections in that sequence, but nothing that creates a complete series.

I have come to the conclusion that this is a rubbish sequence. Not possible to solve.

Without the 1, 1 it would be a perfectly sensible sequence increasing by sequential multiples of 4.

Is there no answer sheet with this paper?
