53/85 is a very decent score for a first go. Keep at it, he will get better every time.
Give him a little notebook. Introduce the concept of PB, (personal best) and PW ([personal worst). You can have a laugh over the PW and a cheer over the PB.
When you look back in the notebook in a few weeks time you will be amazed against his progress. This is what it is all about, his progress, just focus on that.
On missing word, the trick is NOT to look at the incomplete word but the sentence.
What do cats scratch with?
I love this section, I wish they would use it in CEM because once you approach it in the right way it is very straightforward.
If you are both motivated that is more than half the battle.
I suggest you book some mocks for next month so you have something to work towards. DG
