Bond verbal reasoning how to book page 50
Can anyone help with question 44 on page 50, Paul, Luke, Erica and so on.
How do they arrive at the answer of 32 because I can't do it and it isn't explained.
thanks

Next year Paul will be three times older than Luke, who was twice the age of Erica last year. Erica will be 7 next year, so how old is Paul now?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Erica is 6 now so last year she was 5.wileycoyote wrote:Next year Paul will be three times older than Luke, who was twice the age of Erica last year. Erica will be 7 next year, so how old is Paul now?
Last year Luke must have been 10 [twice Erica last year] so Luke is 12 next year.
Next year Paul must be 36 [three times Luke next year] so he is 35 now.
What a terribly worded question which I hope I have correcty interpreted!

Erica will be 7 next year so she is 6 now.
She was 5 last year so Lucas was 10 last year, now he is 11.
Paul is three times older next year which is 33 so this year he is 32.
This is very very badly worded. DG

DG the question talks about Luke's age next year not now.

A couple of tips for this type of question:
1. "Find the fact", which is almost always hiding towards the end of the question. In this case it is that Erica will be 7 next year.
2. Try using a grid to organise the information, where L = Last year, T = This Year and N = Next year. It would look like this once complete:

Code: Select all

E 5 6 7
L 12
P 35 36

I agree with Guest55's answer but the OP has said the answer is 32!
Re: Bond verbal reasoning how to book page 50
The question is wrongly worded if the answer is supposed to be 32!

Hopefully just a typo by the OP, because most Bond books have been in print for a very long time.Guest55 wrote:The question is wrongly worded if the answer is supposed to be 32!
