I cannot solve this problem for my daughter.

Hello,

I am a new to this forum and recently I have been trying to help my daughter to practise her 11+ verbal reasoning. We had the following question, which I do not know the answer and its solution.

If the code for MINION is LPKPJK what is the code for SINGLE. (THE RIGHT answer is FPKRMT)

If you make a note of the letters you do know (ie M is L, I is P, N is K etc) you will see that the 'code' is that the alphabet has been reversed (so A is Z, B is Y etc). This then gives you the other letters you need (F for S, R for G etc).

This is along the right lines but you will notice that it doesn't quite work out. That is because it is shifted by two places.
Code A= Normal X.
Code B= Normal W. etc.

Absolutely the best way is to write below the given alphabet the letters you know and fill it in complete from there. Also name both sets to avoid confusion. It takes a little time but you win that back in the answering, and obviously less chance of mistakes

Questions with the alphabet mirrored are usually impossible to spot the first time you see them, but once seen you and your DC should then spot them much better.

Since most words have a vowel in, if your DC learns those ones it makes them even easier to spot straight away.

My daughter knew
A to Z is obvious.
E to V my DD remembered as she had a friend called Evie.
