Would appreciate help with this GL VR question

Post by Popsiemum »

Hello,
Only just started on GL VR for my year 4 son. So all is very new to us and I haven't got the hang of it.

We have inherited the VR practice books 1&2 Galore Park (author Chris Pearse) from a friend.

Unfortunately the answer key for Papers 1&2 are missing. If anyone is kind enough to email me the answer key, I would really appreciate it. I have emailed Galore Park to ask if they could help several times, but they have simply ignore my email.

I have tried to figure the answers out. However there are a couple which I can't figure out.

1. Joining words from 2 groups
Eg. Cab+in = Cabin

Question: ( to choose 1 word from ABC and join one word from xyz)
A.foot B. shoe C. low
X. lace Y. less Z. form

Is the answer for this 'footless' or 'shoelace'?

2. Deduction question
Claire lives due north of her school.
Her house is north west of the sports centre.
Due north of the sports centre is the park.
These four places form the points of a square.

Where is the park in relation to Claire's school?
A.southeast b. West c. East d.north East e.north

I think the answer is North East, but a friend says d it is East. Not having the answer sheet, I really can't tell the correct answer.

Also, in terms of tips/ techniques ( time constraints for be), is there a quick way to do this?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Best to draw this one out starting with the SCHOOL - followed by HOUSE which will be above SCHOOL - now you have 2 points

HOUSE we know is NW of SPORTS CENTRE - so put the SC South east of the HOUSE

Now you have house top left
School bottom left
Sports centre bottom right
and Park must be top right

Thank you very much.

Would appreciate if anyone could help with the compound word question.

Question: ( to choose 1 word from ABC and join one word from xyz)
A.foot B. shoe C. low
X. lace Y. less Z. form

Is the answer for this 'footless' or 'shoelace'?

Thanks in advance.

If anyone has the Galore Park Practice Test Book 1 ( Chris Pearce), and doesn't mind sharing the answer sheet for Test 1 and 2, I would really be grateful.

According to Collins, the word footless dates back to the 14th century. But equally, shoelace is a valid word. Not a good question, really, if only one answer is allowed?

My instinct is that it is shoelace as footless is not so much common parlance now (footloose possibly is more common) but agree it is a daft question!

Footless tights. Available from many a supplier. As someone who really can't abide having hot feet, I wear them myself with socks and boots in the winter, rather than wearing 'complete' tights. The potential ventilation gap round the ankle makes all the difference, I find :).

Yes - which could be a type of legging I suppose - but that is the only context I can think of, so not as common parlance as shoelace, was my point!

Thank you all.

I've checked original question in book again, in case I may have misread it. Definitely the question is as asked.

So in an exam, which would be expected to be the 'correct' answer?
Very new to this- are all GL VR questions like this?

Emailed Galore Park again , but still no response at all.

Thanks again all for your time with this.
