How to improve Vocabulary

Hi

I am preparing my son for GL Verbal Reasoning. I have always thought his vocabulary was strong and he reads widely but when working through the CGP Verbal Reasoning practice book he has found the Closest Meaning, Opposite Meaning and Word Connections tricky as the questions have included some unknown words. I will continue to promote reading and encourage him to underline unfamiliar works and read with him more but I was wondering if there were any recommended books/flashcards etc that could help and that are particularly targeting to GL Verbal Reasoning?

Thanks a lot!

CGP key stage 2 weekly workout books are good. Spelling and vocabulary.
There's a few different activities.
We started with the year 4 book.

Thank you. I have used those books in the past for maths and times tables but hadn't noticed there were spelling and vocab ones.
