Yes, there can be many methods and logics to solve these types of questions. But I felt bit uncomfortable with the logic that you used to solve these two questions:

(57 [27] 9) (60 [30] 10)

(54 [?] 8 )

(10 [15] 45) (12 [18] 54)

(8 [?] 36)

I will be surprised if you taught the same logics that you explained earlier to your 11+ students. :)

Dear Gilly

I teach my children just about every eventuality. If they cant work it out one way, they can do it another way...

I am so lovely that I have made up 100 really hard questions, I tell them that if they can get these right they can answer just about anything thrown at them.

Dear Patricia , Ambridge, and all...

Ambridge pleeeeese tell us the answers! Its so hard to make sense of it all otherwise!

Patricia, am I being a dunce here?

(3 [18] 9) (5 [50] 15)

(7 [?] 12)

The method you used to work this out doesnt seem to be working for me!

3 x 9 = 27 subtract 9 [ the number on the right]
5 x 15 = 65 subtract 15 [the number on the right]
7 x 12 = 84 subtract 12 = 72

5 x 15 = 65, subtract 15, number on right equals SIXTY, but the number in the brackets is 50. Am I missing something?

Dear Jays darlin

I cant even mulitply...

5 x 15 = 75 not 65

Mum 007 top of the class. Patricia In the corner with the hat on...

I get the following:

"The difference between the two outer numbers" x "the left hand one"

Do we know what the answer actually is?

Is it 35?

9-3=6 x3=18
15-5=10 x5=50
12-7=5 x7=35

I would have got 35 too.

(I think it's ca11ed the CJS effect. It gets us once in a while and affects different people differently.)

Except I probably would not get mixed up between £65 and £32 million!

For those who do not understand, 32 million being the amount paid to Depp for a return adventure in Pirates 4

Have you had your banana?

For those who don't understand, 'a banana is the equivalent of a Red Nose which has nothing to do with Christmas and everything to do with the ma55es'.

The above is not a Verbal Reasoning Question, jaysdarlin, so don't panic.
