It is only fair I share my views after visiting the two schools

Wallington Girls
Pros
- Girls appear to be chilled out?
- Focus on STEM subjects (Girls spoke about an app competition)
- Girls proud of their school
- Lots of support if students struggling with certain subjects (Sixth formers and teacher run lunch time sessions)
Cons
- Big school so not everyone gets an opportunity with clubs and school trips
- MFL girls choose one and one is given by school
- Music rooms appear very cramped

Nonsuch
Pros
- New head focussed and has taken great strides to improve student wellbeing
- Lots of clubs and societies
- Astronomy tower
- Product Engineering focussed.
Cons
- Big school so not everyone gets an opportunity to attend all clubs

Personally DD and I are inclining towards Nonsuch

Happy Friday Ladies,
again the same question - how did your Daughters find the schools? We accepted the WHSG (IC) offer last week and on the waiting list for Nonsuch (IC) too. I really would love to hear about your experiences. And also, why everyone is talking and really eager to get their DD in NS, but WHSG appears mainly as a second choice? I feel both schools are excellent. TIA!

Years ago parents had been asked to pay quite a bit in addition to the usual contributions in order for a new music block to be built at Wallington Girls. So it is disappointing if the music rooms are not what one would expect.

My daughter is at WHSG now in year 10.
She would have got a NS place but chose Wallington.
She knows several girls at NS from her primary.
Wallington was always our first choice.
The following points were the basis of our decision.
Bear in mind this was over 4 years ago.
Wallington had a more laid back fun sort of vibe. The girls seemed at open day much prouder of their school than at NS.
Our impression is that WHSG is more diverse.
Lots of girls we knew at NS had coaching. We had the feeling it was more pressurised.
At WHSG they do two MFLs in year 7. At NS one MFL plus Latin in year 7. Second MFL in year 8 if you drop Latin.
We were aware that at the time we made our choice NS had a poor reputation locally for pastoral care.
I understand that this is much improved with the new head.
There are link ups with Wilson’s. Eg top mathematicians at WHSG meet with Wilson’s to do extra curricular maths after school.
Joint school plays and music opportunities with Wilson’s.
More emphasis on STEM at Wallington.
Music I think is better at NS but that wasn’t a factor for my DD.
My Dd can walk to school.
We were lucky knowing girls at both schools we went to plays, school fairs and gym and dance displays at both in year 5 so had lots of info to base our decision on.
WHSG always felt like a better fit for my DD.
She is really happy and has a great group of sociable friends.
They wander into Wallington after school and socialise which is also really good.
NS get slightly better GCSE results and Wallington usually marginally better A level results.
This didn’t influence our decision.
Girls do brilliantly at both schools.

My DD is in year 7 at WHSG. She would have got a place at Nonsuch on offer day but WHSG was our first choice.

I've been really impressed - she's had a very chilled out start to high school, the level of homework has been much lighter than I had been led to expect.

She's flung herself into the extra-curricular activities and auditioned successfully for a part in the school production (Legally Blonde this year). She's in one of the choirs, one of the orchestras, did/does vlogging club, creative writing, board games, maker space, and has weekly instrument lessons from a peri teacher. She's won a Lego engineering competition, and is generally thoroughly enjoying life. There's so much to get stuck into, for all interests (you'll note mine has avoided sports clubs like the plague, but there are lots of those, too! ).

The girls seem very friendly - last week there was an inter-house competition day, with girls selecting a topic (music, sport, dance, Lego mindstorms etc) and a group from years 7-9 from each house working together to produce a final piece that was judged. My daughter now has friends across all the KS3 & 4 year groups.

You can probably tell, but I'm thrilled with the school and have been very impressed by how they've handled everything. There's a definitely concentration on wellbeing this year.

Okay, it's a conspiracy - DD is also at a WHSG -Westcliff, not Wallington. Her school has also just staged Legally Blonde  .
