Re: Urgent! Sutton Grammar Wallington Grammar Schools Admiss
Thanks ever so much, I am overwhelmed with all that great maths.
In my simple terms, he was not accepted for Wilson so he was not in the highest 614. does that conflict with the Normal distribution rank of 553?
Also, what would his chances to be accepted at Wallington Grammar, certain?
Thanks again for this great effort.

Don't forget that Sutton and Wilsons calculate their second stage scores differently - Sutton uses 60% second stage and 40% SET, Wilsons uses 80% second stage and 20% SET. So if a boy did much better in the SET than in the second round this will be reflected in a relatively higher score for Sutton, whereas if their SET was borderline but their second round was strong they will get a relatively higher score at Wilsons. I'm not sure it's straightforward to find the score for one by looking at the score for the other.

SET (mean of 200)
Stage2 (mean of 200)
Wilsons score = 0.5 * SET + 2.0 * Stage2 = total score mean is 500.
Sutton score = 0.6 * SET + 0.9 * Stage2 = total score mean is 300.
For an example someone who accepted a place in Sutton.
Sutton score = 288.46 Wilsons = 469.83
I wonder if anyone has ever taken the stage 2 purely to fail it, so they get their SET score so they know chances of getting into Wallington.

Thanks so much so his Sutton score is 288? also would that mean that he has a most certain chance to go to Wallington?
Re: Urgent! Sutton Grammar Wallington Grammar Schools Admiss
Hello and good evening everybody,
The intention was not to take the stage 2 purely to fail, so we get the SET score and therefore know chances of getting into Wallington but unfortunately that is exactly what happened to my son...
Question is then - how much of a chance HAS he realistically got of getting into Wallington?
GlynisTally - if you could do your number magic and shed some light on this I would really appreciate!

Yes please any magic
Re: Urgent! Sutton Grammar Wallington Grammar Schools Admiss
I did not have the details handy last night -
his score for Sutton was 260.72 (from what I managed to deduce he is therefore four bands below the selective ability accepting level of 275).
His second stage English for Wilson's was 172, for maths 187 and overall score 448.
How do I calculate his chances for Wallington from all that?!?

Hi GlynisTally,
My son passed Sutton & wallington Grammar, but missed wilson due to his low score in English, though he managed to score more than the threshold mark 475 .
My sons score is as below,
Second stage English 181 137
Second stage Maths 166 243
Overall Entrance Examination score* 475 478
I am not sure how to calculate the SGS score from this. we live inside catchment area only for sutton. It would be great, if you advise me how likely my son able to get the place in sutton grammar and wallington school , and what might be his predicted cut-off or rank ? that would be really helpful to prioritise my CAF form.
Please respond ASAP. Many thanks in advance.
