Farnham Common/Slough to Tiffin Commute

Does anybody send their DC from Slough/Farnham Common to the Tiffin schools? Our DS (based on his CATs results) should be bright enough to get in and we want to send him there because of the excellent exam results and Oxbridge entrance rates. If there are a few parents doing this we could use a shared taxi - until we move to Kingston.

I can't think that there would be any given that the grammar schools in Slough/Bucks should be easier to get into than Tiffin. IF your DC is bright they would thrive in any (grammar) scool, I would have thought.

The Slough grammars are good (Herschel/St Bernards/Burnham) to very good (Langley), but even Langley gets very few of its students into Oxbridge. Also a Tiffin education generally sounds more rounded, though just as rigorous academically.

Public transport is always encouraged. You could take the train from Slough into Paddington which takes 31 mins but then you would need to cross London to take the train from Waterloo to Kingston which is 27 mins. You would need to leave Slough at around 6am to arrive in Kingston for 8am.

By car it is 26 miles on the M4, M25, M3 and then A308. It would very likely take over an hour each way.

What about after school activities such as music and sport? What about seeing friends at weekends? What about when Hampton Court Flower show is on when the traffic is bad? Or any day on the M25?

Is a Tiffin education really worth all this travelling?

How many children actually went to Oxbridge last year from Tiffin? What course does he want to study? Is Oxbridge the best?

Just looked on the Tiffin website 8 into Cambridge and 11 Oxford. Is that high?

Why would some one drop Langley or Herschel or Slough Grammar and travel 20 -30 miles each way to Tiffins?

Perhaps, Tiffin is a better sounding name.
Or perhaps, getting a place in Tiffins seems like having superior intelligence.

But we can't blame parents if the Schools allow people to apply from such distances.

Similarly, St. Bernards's has an outstanding ofsted report 2011. Also, although your son may be bright - Tiffin Boys is very competitive to get into! Leave your options open....!

You'd be mad to speed by these schools to get to Tiffins - which are great.

The Slough schools are great - erm though Burnham is actually in Bucks , so different exams again , but I'm sure Burnham is also great.
