Proposed date for second stage test: 16 November 2013.

Extracts:

'The second round of tests will test the core subjects of English and maths.

The School’s admission standard and the ranking order for places will determined as follows. The
total score of all the multiple choice items on the eligibility test will be standardised and adjusted
for age. The results from the first stage tests will be carried forward and combined with the results
from the second stage tests. Three standardised scores will be calculated using: (1) all the multiple choice items from the eligibility tests, (2) the English paper in the second stage test and (3) the mathematics paper in the second stage test. The three standardised scores will be weighted in the ratio 4:3:3, an age allowance will be added and the total rounded to the nearest four marks. In previous years this rounding has resulted in about 30-50 boys, from an entry of about 1500 boys, being on the same score around the pass score. Boys on the same score are ranked according to the distance criterion, with those living nearest the school being given priority.'

Rounding to nearest 4 marks. Is it indirect way to give priority to local children?
Or is it to reduce appeals rate as parents would think that their children lost out by 4 marks, rather than by 2 points? Clever way of rounding, I would imagine.

Merry Christmas & A Very Happy New Year
