Applying through Surrey County Council or Sutton Council?
Hi All
a little premature but this is all new ground for me. My daughter will be sitting the Nonsuch exam. I live within the catchment area of Nonsuch, but my address falls under Surrey County Council, not London Borough of Sutton, which Council do I apply through?
Thanks

Welcome Lou, my understanding is that you apply to the local authority you pay council tax to. Which in your case will be surrey.

Lou - you have to apply in 2 ways:
so 1) register with the school 2) make sure that the school is named on the CAF3.2. Nonsuch is part of Sutton’s Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme. In order to make a valid
application for a place in Year 7, parents/carers must:
3.2.1. register with the school to take the entrance tests by completing our
Supplementary Form available online on the school’s website from mid-May
and
3.2.2. name Nonsuch on their Common Application Form (CAF) issued by their
home local authority. The closing date for the CAF is 31 October of the
admission year.
Re: Applying through Surrey County Council or Sutton Council
If you live in Surrey you apply to Surrey regardless of where the schools you are applying to are located.
SCC pass on your information to Sutton council and Nonsuch direct. You may also be applying to Tiffins depending on your postcode and again SCC will pass your details to Kingston if that's the case.
Your own council is responsible for all communications about your daughter's application because you are resident in their area. That has no bearing on which school you get offered though, that is all to do with score and distance and the admissions criteria published.
