NVR/VR--125/160
MATHS--41/50
READING--12/30
WRITTING--9/20
These look like raw scores. i.e. 125/160 is based on the VR and NVR which were both 80 questions.

I don't think much interpretation is possible without the underlying data. I believe the way it works is the top and bottom scores are used in each category and then the final contribution is a linear interpolation. We have no idea what the min and max scores in each category are so you can't really conclude anything. e.g. If the lowest score in the Maths was 0 and the highest was 50 then the maths score is excellent and would have led to a high contribution; if on the other hand the lowest maths score was 40 and the highest was 50 then the contribution is far less.

Probably best to call admissions once the dust has settled and see what your chances are. (They will be very busy at present)

Peridot - Thanks. It would be very helpful if you could let me know average commuting time from Ealing on the 65 bus.

If two people could publish the raw score and the scaled score in each of the four categories then we should be able to derive the min and max and hence the formula (although not the distribution) of scores.

Thanks

Congratulations to those who have been offered a place, and all the best to those who are on the wait list.

This is irrelevant but I thought I'm going to share my DD's score - as this forum has been a good source of informations throughout the 11+ journey. DD's mark for TGS is 60.53, but we have accepted Nonsuch (our first choice).

Here's my guess as to the numbers...

Code: Select all

min	max	raw	100%	contrib	range	adj
116	152	125	160 30 37 8.05
15 49 41 50 20 35 15.11
4 25 12 30 30 22 11.55
5 15 9 20 20 11 7.91
						                         42.62
Min is the score of the lowest candidate; Max is the score of the highest candidate
Range is (max-min+1); adj=((raw-min)/range)*(contrib-1)+1

i.e. scale a raw score between a min and a max to a contribution between 1 and contrib

I have very limited data to go on so this is may have some errors but I think it is about right.

I have not seen the raw and scaled marks (may be if 2 or 3 parents post their dds' score too), but the SVE method is as per last year's method.

Last year, some parent had asked for clarification and TGS had given detailed reply. So if some parent again contact the School and ask for details, I am sure that TGS would provide the min and max for each of the test element.

And last year too, many parents were perplexed by the English marking. Perhaps, markers were using KS4 guidelines.

We live south of ealing broadway on the 65 Route. Several friends told us how long their dd's journey to tgs took. However, all of our post offer trial runs took 10 to 50 (yes fifty) minutes more than this. I think parents unwittingly put a positive spin on life in all its glory and travel time is part of this. The only way to assess if a journey is acceptable to you is to do it with dd several times at the timesshe would be doing it. If that is too difficult for you then it is too difficult for dd for the next 5 - 7 years. Good luck.

Add to it a slight road work or diversion and you had it. Underground to Richmond (changing at Turnham Green) and then bus to Kingston is often quicker.
