Perhaps the website is not up-to-date? A previous poster is a current pupil. She is not taking triple science so I don't think there is any doubt that this option now exists.

One concern is all pupils at a super selective school should be capable of taking triple science and achieving high final grades. This is after all just GCSE not A Level Further Maths only suited to a select few.
Another concern is whether the double award is a genuine option or an almost compulsory pathway for lower set girls. It would be wrong for girls to be encouraged to take easier GCSEs for better league table outcomes when children of equal ability in non selective schools will be taking triple science.

That's a possibility. Half course in RS also do not count towards School's performance now.

Modernista- 17 girls in the year decided to take it. Girls in my class who were in set one out of four last year are also taking core and additional, do not worry about your daughter being asked to take course and additional, as nobody in my year was asked and girls are now only partially set for triple science. :)
loopylou- I took double science so I could take Latin as one of my options, double award is now a genuine option.
tb- All girls at Nonsuch have to do half course RS for GCSE.

Nonsuch girl - what do you mean when you say 'girls are only partially set for triple science', how does it work?
Modernista- I would be grateful if you share the outcome of your meeting. My daughter is in year 7 and I will definitely ask about this at the next parents evening :?:

Victoria123- At the moment, girls doing triple science are set for chemistry and biology, but not for physics.

When my DD was at Nonsuch , she is now 21, all the girls had to take triple science and I can remember a lot of parents at the Gcse options evening complaining that their daughters had no great interest in science and did not want to take triple science . They argued if their girls could take double science that would release another GCSE option for them to do a subject they enjoy. It maybe the school has bowed to constant parental pressure .
In addition they used to run a fast track maths course for those girls particularly gifted in maths , which meant they took maths Gcse in year 10. They used to use the maths sets to determine what sets the girls were in for science.
All girls also took some science modules at the end of year 10.
No doubt all changed now .

Catcool- yes that it basically what has happened!! Some girls still take maths early, but the school has realised that girls may be gifted at only maths or science, so we are now set differently

I find it refreshing that Nonsuch is offering the option NOT to take three sciences. My son is very annoyed that he is taking three compulsory sciences at GCSE at Tiffin. He dislikes the science GCSEs and would have jumped at the chance to take an additional language or another humanity instead of the third science. These subjects are no less academically rigorous than single science GCSEs, some subjects probably more so. It would have been great for him to have had another subject that actually interested him to study at GCSE. Not everyone wants to study medicine!

(edited to say he dislikes science GCSEs, not that he dislikes science. Two quite different things... :( )
