Here are the top performers. I also have a spreadsheet ranked for all candidates you can pm me for if interested. Top Seven were all boys. One of the joint firsts did Maths GCSE in Year Four and got an A* but still manged to lose four marks so all those who got the same as him and the girl who got two more marks did amazingly well. The student I know who was top in A was joint top girl this time. She got a higher score this time as did all the students I know who did A and B. Just goes to show what a different knowing the format makes.

There were 110 absences which is a real waste. There would have been 124 if I had not arranged 14 swops among students I knew. Perhaps Sutton could consider standby places so they could reallocate places to people who were prepared to come and wait if the owner did not turn up on time. This would solve the problem of a bunch of students arriving at the last minute. They could have a thirty minute cutoff like the airlines and warn that slots will be reallocated if students have not checked in thirty minutes before the exam starts.

The highest praise to Sutton mocks for all they do. It is really worth its weight in gold and to have the last session Sunday pm and have the results for 1500 students Tuesday am is amazing and puts a lot of selective schools ,who take weeks, to shame.

Thank you

DG

Thank You from the PTA organising team

We are also sorry for the number of wasted spaces when we had over 100 people emailing still asking for slots after we were full.
It is a massively well oiled machine . We have students with additional needs/medical issues and it is not as simple as it seems just sitting another child in the seat. 160 children checking in takes some time and we start taking them in 45 minutes before the start and usually have most in about 10 minutes before the start.
It would only be at this stage we would be sure who had failed to turn up. I don't suppose those arriving late having been stuck in an accident on the M25 would be happy someone else had sat in the seat they had paid for when they just made it before the start. Now we have our online system sorted, we will look at offering official date changes ,where possible, for next year as we had done previously. Hopefully this will help the issue.
Good luck to everyone for the real tests

Could some one please explain what do the scores mean.

- How are the standardised scores calculated?
- Do the percentages provided reflect the raw score. So if a DC recieved 97% in Maths it implies they recieved a raw score equivalent to 97%.

The percentage scores are there actual score so the English had 75 questions 100 % would mean they got
75 out of 75
The following is in the FAQ when you book

14. What is 'standardisation'?
A standardised score is a recognized mathematical process that is used by setters of any large test to indicate the performance of any candidate against the others who took the test. It takes into account the difficulty of the test and the spread of scores so that the results on different tests are directly comparable.

Hi mods - as this is specifically about Sutton mocks do you think it should be moved to Surrey? The threads about Sutton mocks session A are under Surrey. And Sutton Grammar itself is in Surrey, although I know people from further afield use these mocks too.

My next point must be prefaced with a big thank you to the PTA for smooth running on the day - and generally having the gumption to organise what is a valuable service - the ladies were very kind to DD.

The standardised marks. Standardised against the cohort who sat the test. Against kids who think its worthwhile to spend two hours on a weekend doing practice papers in a sweaty gym hall. Compared to - say - the Bucks scores - which are standardised against the whole Y6 population in the county. So 100 in the Sutton Mock means you're bang on the median out of the kids who are actively prepping for 11+ - and is probably equivalent to a much higher score in a test standardised against a more representative population.

I think this could matter for state school applicants, for whom this might be the first time that they get a CAT-type of score - and hence they could be discouraged by getting an apparently low score. I believe private schools tend to do more CAT testing - and probably a more reliable HT recommendation - so they'd find it easier to shrug off a disappointing score.

It might be worth putting an extra health warning that the scores are not directly comparable because of the self-selecting nature of the cohort. Anecdotally - this forum is full of 'scraped a pass on Sutton Mock; sailed into superselectives' type of stories.

It is telling that on test B, top scores were 133 and 128 respectively. So apparently out of 1500 kids, none of them would get into the school that DD is aiming for :?
