WCGS Exam Letter - Number in Brackets in Subject

Hi,

Does anyone know what the number in brackets on the subject line of the exam results letters mean? DS got a (1) letter from Wilsons and a (5) letter from WCGS. His friend got a (2) letter from WCGS.

Having read some of the comments on other grammar schools eg in other parts of London, it seems that they previously had (1), (2) and (3) letters whereby to paraphrase: (1) was "very likely to get a place" (therefore presumably in the top 120), (2) was "possibly gain a place" (therefore presumably in rank place 121 - 220?), and (3) was "may gain a place" (therefore presumably has passed the exam but highly unlikely to gain a place due to being low down the rank order).

Does anyone know whether I need to worry about the (5) on my DS's letter? Do you think it means he's likely to be ranked somewhere in the 401-500? I know all the wording is the same in all letters but am just worried as to what the numbers mean. My DH says they probably relate to the batches they were sent out in, but I imagine they wouldn't be mixed batches.
