Tiffin Boys incoming Year 7 2015 - Interesting Data

Post by YoungSuccess »

Happen to have the PARTIAL postcodes for the incoming students for Sept 2015 (not full list, only 165 or so ) and it is interesting to see where they are coming from. I am sure some of you would enjoy dissecting this and aspiring parents would find this interesting too - a good number of KTs and TWs, so you have some idea.

Rumour has it that Burlington Junior ( NM ) alone "produced" 11 successful entries and Vineyard School ( Richmond )- 6 successful entries. The 18 or so KT3s in the list support this rumour for Burlington? There must be something very "special" going on in these schools! :-) Any parent from these schools, or any other schools with high success rate would care to share with us what's been going on in these schools to account for the high success rate? Thanks.

Partial postcodes:

KT3 TW10 TW3 UB6 TW7 KT3 W5 KT3 TW1 KT3 KT6, TW9, TW18, TW5, TW13
W4 TW7 TW14 TW7 TW1 TW1 TW7 TW5 TW2 W13 TW1 TW12 TW9 SW19 SW5 TW2 UB2 W7 TW7 TW4 TW3 KT3
SW19 TW10 SW11 KT7 KT2 KT6 KT2 TW7 CR4 KT3 KT2 TW9 KT2 TW5 KT2 TW7 W5 TW12
KT7 KT1 TW9 UB1 TW7 TW3 TW7 KT3 KT3 KT2 TW7 TW9 TW3 UB6 TW12 KT7 TW10 KT6 KT5
TW5 TW5 KT6 KT3 SW20 KT3 TW15 TW3 TW2 KT3 KT1 SW15 W5 TW1 KT5 KT7 KT2 KT2 TW3
SW19 UB2 KT2 W5 KT9 KT6 KT1 KT4 TW9 TW9 TW5 W5 TW3 KT6 KT10 KT19 TW7 TW5 KT6
KT3
TW3 SW19 TW4 KT3 TW18 TW3 TW3 TW5 KT9 TW3 TW7 TW10 W5 KT2 TW3 TW2 KT2
SW18 TW3 TW12 KT3 KT8 UB2 KT2 UB1 KT5 KT5 UB2 KT3 UB2 TW2 TW9 KT1 SW14
SW18 KT6 UB2 KT3 KT3 TW11 SW15 TW2 TW14 KT3 KT5 KT6 TW7 TW1 TW14 SW19 KT6

P/S - before someone shouts, obviously it is a crude observation - it may well be that other schools have more success in other Grammar schools. It is just a simple deduction to invite healthy discussion.

It might be more helpful to sort the data e.g.

TW1 - x pupils
TW2 - y pupils

etc

That would be good. YS perhaps you could easily put your data on excel. And if you know the first digit of the sub post code, you may possibly see how many are from area near to Burlington.

Just need the 'countif' function on EXCEL to do it for you.

I would be surprised if there are 21 from just 2 KT3 schools in Tiffin Schools alone. With girls, how high would be the number from one post code?

Now that you have confirmed 10 from Coombe Hill, that probably supports my initial theory. Yes, a parent confirmed the 11 from Burlington, making it 21 from the 2 schools.

My theory - I would bet my luch money  that these children are the same one who used to meet every weekend and some on weekdays and intensively during the summer holiday; there were smaller sets (5 or 6 per group) of super able students working at an even faster pace from the bigger groups - highly able and tested and selected initially - I suspect most came from these super groups.

Any Burlington and Coombe Hill parent here supporting this theory? Post YES. :)

If 21 boys from just 2 KT3 schools are correct, then this must be an amazing year for these 2 schools. Must be record breaking.

Btw, are there 18 KT3s in the original post?

Where did Tiffin offers get down to on the waiting list? Haven't declined it yet, so will be some more movement.
