SGS - MFL allocation in year 7
Does anyone know how they decide which language your child learns in y7 at SGS Do you get to make a choice or is it totally random? Half German - Half French?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: SGS - MFL allocation in year 7
Last year we were advised that if we had a strong preference for either French or German then in could be expressed, but had to be with a good reason - or words to that effect. This year's yr 7 have 3 tutor groups studying French and 2 doing German. Hope that helps

Yes it is pretty much random unless you have a strong reason.
It used to be that if you had a sibling in school and were assigned to the same house you would have a good idea which form you'd be in, and therefore which language you would be studying - but I imagine with the new 5 form intake this has changed.
No matter which you study in Year 7, you can then opt to study the other one in Year 8. So if you are allocated German in Year 7, you continue it in Year 8 but can also express a preference for French (or Spanish) as your second MFL.

Thanks so much Coconuts and redstar. It's a factor for us as DS has grandparents in France and has learnt French at Primary so would like to sustain that...
