Despite of the 36 objections (this number was published in their consultation response) to remove the Postcode TW18, it has been removed from the School’s Designated Area. Not a good result for people living in Staines for whom the travel is shorter than some of the postcodes which have made their way in the School’s Designated Area.

Now either we drop the plan to get DD in the school or move the house. funny enough no one would care although she made to the top of the rankings just because she is not 'living' in one of the postcodes from where there are girls coming to school!

I was not one of the people who responded to the consultation, but I know that the school encourages girls to take advantage of the after-school activities, to have time for sport / music /drama / art without needing to run to the gate as soon as the bell rings to get home as fast as possible. Honestly, coming top of those whose 11+ ranks are eligible for a place at the school isn’t something they value above everything else. Mathematically, performance at 11+ doesn’t have the correlation you might expect with GCSE results either. There’s a link to a regression analysis in the TGS stage two sticky that’s worth a look if you’re not convinced.

At least you now have plenty of notice that you need to explore local alternatives and/or move if you would like your daughter to have a better chance of securing a TGS place.

OP, having responded to the consultation, you’ll be familiar with this, but for others, here are the words the school used - in the “Consultation Preamble” - to explain why the transitional arrangements in place for students from TW18 will no longer apply from September 2020 onwards:

Paragraph 5.4 – postal district TW18 to be removed from the Designated Area. We believe that all our students should be able to participate fully in the life of the School, both in and outside lessons, and have time to enjoy their time outside school too. If a girl has an excessively long journey at each end of the day it can cause tiredness during the school day and affect her ability to maintain her friendships and pursuits outside school. The majority of public transport journey times from TW18 are more than an hour, as per the Transport for London website.
The transitional arrangements for younger sibling(s) of students already in the School who lived outside the Designated Area at the time the Designated Area was introduced will no longer apply from September 2020 onwards.

Living in Staines puts you in Priority Area 2 for LGS, which won't be applicable for the parents who are in other designated areas for TGS. There may also be other schools which your DD may be eligible for, which won't be available for parents in other designated areas. You win some, lose some. You have enough notice to move within inner / designated area, if a place for TGS is what you are after for your DD.

Whilst i understand whats stated in terms of commute and effect that would have on time that can be spent on after school activities, i have very detailed analysis done on the time taken from all the postcodes and few requires more time than TW18 and still have made their way in the area. I can provide analysis if anyone interested but just because TW18 'falls' last in the postcode does not mean take that off.. for example what is the time difference between TW17 and TW18? is is 3 mins less and in fact the fast trains stop in Staines and not in Ashford means that there are less options if you miss one train but still TW17 is in the designated area.

Sorry then why have ranking .. just do it on the distance. this goes again 'selective' criteria.. you either have to adhere to it or not .
Anyway, me ranting here is not going to change anything. The option is as what explained before.
