Return Journey from Hounslow to Wallington/Wilsons

Post by Raisa06 »

Hi Folks,

Is there anyone available for car pool return journey from Hounslow to Wallington or Wilsons for Sep 2019?

Alternatively, do we have any parents that are sending off their children via public transport.

Please get in touch ASAP.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Please see below advice relating to car shares
Checklist when considering a car share:

• How much do you really know about the other parent from a child safeguarding point of view? (Remember, anyone working with children, e.g. bus drivers for the school service, must have a current DBS form.)

• How much do you really know about their driving skills? Have you seen their insurance and car roadworthy details? (Remember that public transport and dedicated school services are required to have these, to a high level.)

• How would you cope if your child fell out with the other children in the car pool, or wanted to do different after school activities, or didn't want to stay after school when the other children were staying late?

• How would you cope if one of the other car pool parents had their car break down, or off the road for some other reason, at short notice?

• What if it's your turn to drive, and you or your child is sick?

• What if the other family turns out to be unreliable, or the driver/their child is regularly late, or ill?

• What if the other child moves to a different school?

• What if one child needs to stay after school for an activity or event?

• What if the driver smokes when driving?

• What if the driver's conversation turns out to be objectionable or age inappropriate?

Hounslow to Sutton isn't really a sustainable journey. Have you thought of moving?

Clapham Junction will become a second home, possibly...

06:59 Hounslow

(Platform 1)

South Western Railway towards London Waterloo via Brentford

07:28

07:32 Clapham Junction

(Platform 15)

Southern towards Horsham

07:49 Carshalton

Walk

1.0 mi (20 mins)

08:09 Wallington County Grammar School, Croydon Rd, Wallington SM6 7PH

or...

06:48 Hounslow

(Platform 2)

South Western Railway towards London Waterloo

07:20

07:24 Clapham Junction

(Platform 15)

Southern towards Sutton

07:52 Waddon Station

Walk

0.9 mi (19 mins)

08:11 Wilson's School, Mollison Dr, Wallington SM6 9JW

Which one does your DS actually have a place at? Looks like he could have more of a lie-in if it's Wallington?

Just 4 minutes between trains at Clapham Junction isn’t long enough. Even if the first train leaves at the right time (rare enough with London trains and in fact it’s very common for trains to be not just delayed, but cancelled without notice), there’s often a delay en route. If there’s a need to go downstairs and back up to a different platform at Clapham Junction in rush hour, you’re stuffed.

Btw I take trains in and out of London all the time. I chose to live near a direct train journey to/from work, actually within striking distance of underground, overground and the infamous SouthWest trains, not to mention bus routes so I’d always have an alternative. Even so, the commute is often difficult, the train service is often unreliable and far more frequently than you’d think, the journey time can double or triple with no notice.

Please find another school place nearer home, or move.

How about taking a week off work and trying it yourself for five days to see what it feels like.
Excellent library in Wallington where you could spend time mimicking the duration of the school day before returning home.
Don’t forget large rucksack plus pe kit and a musical instrument ( they all have to play one in year 7).

That’s a great idea! And to make it realistic, it can’t be during school holidays and two of the evenings a week you should leave the library at 16:45 or later as a proxy for an after-school club (or a detention for being late - do those schools operate detentions?). That would give you a proper experience of both Clapham Junction and the journey you are foisting on a child. I’m not being mean to you, but I believe you are being mean to your child. No school is worth it. I honestly wouldn’t even consider that trip for paid employment.

Your dc should be in a school in your community.

If you want your ds to go to school in Sutton then please move to Sutton or somewhere on a good bus route to Sutton.

Why not post for advice for a good place to live for these two schools?

Why would you be asking internet strangers if they can share the burden of getting your ds to school in another borough?

What does your ds say about all this?

Surely he wants to go to a school where he could have local friends.

A good friend of mine has just given up a place at QE in favour of one at Latymer because the family realised that a 90 minute bus journey twice a day , ten times a week, forty times a month was just going to be very exhausting.

You need to try a week of this ten times a week and see what you feel about the commute after that DG
