I have no idea where to start and hoping for advice.
My nephew is in yr5 and we're keen for him to go to a selectively academic school if at all possible.
Which schools would he be eligible to apply for?
Where can we find out - his primary school just assumes they all go to the local Harris academy.
Thanks so much

Mitcham is well placed for all three Sutton Grammars (Sutton Grammar School, Wallington and Wilson’s). I personally would say it’s too far to Tiffins.

Wilson’s has no catchment, although they don’t like their boys travelling more than an hour; SGS has roughly half and half catchment and no catchment places; Wallington has a few catchment places but mostly no catchment.

Thank you "Oneoftwothings"

Can you apply to all 3?
Do you have to put an order of preference?

You apply through your home LA and can apply for any state school anywhere in the country.

Yes, you do have to rank schools in (your true) order of preference.

Have a look at the secondary school admissions pages of your LA's website for an explanation of how the system works.

Depending on your exact location in Mitcham, you may also like to consider Graveney school in Tooting (accessible by bus). It is partially selective and streams the children by academic ability from Day 1, so the more able children are pushed and the weaker performers get extra support. The admissions test is verbal and non-verbal reasoning and I would say that its cut-offs for admission are slightly lower than for the grammar schools, so it's a good back-up option even if you would prefer fully grammar.

It is a mixed school, whereas the grammars are all single-sex, and this might also appeal to some families.

you can apply to all 3 and yes you do have to put them in order of preference but it is YOUR order of preference and will not affect your chance of getting the 2nd or 3rd place school. If you can't get into your first choice school then your second choice becomes your first.

Thank you streathammum
We will look into it.

So Graveney is verbal and non verbal reasoning.

What is the Sutton Grammar's Selective Eligibility Test? The website just says it is not verbal or non verbal reasoning.
