The Sutton grammar tests are English and Maths - the first round (the SET) is multiple choice, the second round (if you get through to it) is free format answers.

What is the Sutton Grammar's Selective Eligibility Test? The website just says it is not verbal or non verbal reasoning.

Thank you all for taking the time to post, I really appreciate all your help.
For the Graveney test, i will get him some verbal and non verbal reasoning books to start practising. Is there a particular one that is best? I can see GL, Bond, CGP - are they pretty much the same?
I was also going to suggest they start him on age 8-9 and if he finds them ok to move up to 9-10 then 11.
Similarly for the Sutton Grammars, Maths & English multiple choice, the CGP look good, or is there a more appropriate one?

We used the Bond books for both Wandsworth and Graveney tests, they seemed to cover the right sort of ground. Sutton sets its own exams so there isn't a book series that you can guarantee will cover the content of the test, but anything offering English and Maths in line with the national curriculum should be fine.
