The LA doesn't have to offer straightaway if there is no place that can be offered.streathammum wrote:What do you mean about not having a school? Your local authority should have offered you a place at a school and you should accept it. If you don't accept it, the local authority has no obligation to offer you another that you prefer and you may be left without a school at all.
If you are very unhappy with the school you've been offered you should get in touch with your local authority to ask how you can make late applications to schools that you didn't initially have on your CAF so that you can be put on their waiting lists. Good luck.
2.11 Where a place is available for a child at more than one school, the home local authority must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the
child is offered a place at whichever of these schools is their highest preference. If the local authority is unable to offer a place at one of the
parents’ preferred schools it must, if there are places available, offer a place at another school.

According to local press, there are some CC whom Essex DC have placed at a school c.40 miles by road from their home (albeit almost within sight by straight line; that's coastlines for you) . So there being a place somewhere to offer doesn't necessarily help. Admissions are working on it...

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's very unusual not to offer a place at all, and very stressful for you.AJsurrey wrote:Yes we were quite shocked as well when the letter said ‘no offer possible currently’- we have been offered no school at all and the local authority have been in touch since then saying they will be putting my son on the waiting list of other local comprehensives including the ones we had put down and will look to find a place before the start of the term.
Hence in a very strange situation.
One avenue to explore might be undersubscribed schools in other local authorities that your child could travel to. Your own local authority may not be able to offer you a place in these schools (I think if they're offering you a school you haven't put on your CAF it has to one in your own local authority) but you may be successful on the waiting list for them.
Otherwise, do you know where other children locally go to school? Did you put these schools on your CAF? If not, and they were full on offer day with children who did apply, the local authority wouldn't be able to offer you a place there but you might be high on the waiting list if you apply now.
Good luck.

Thankyou for the good wishes @streathammum- we are just waiting patiently.
Yes our local authority did mention about applying to schools in other local authorities that is close by and we have now done that. Fingers crossed. it is too anxious a wait.

that's good - as Streathammum said it is unusual but does happen from time to time, fortunately usually gets sorted fairly quickly. Make sure you are on waiting lists at as many places you can beAJsurrey wrote:Thankyou for the good wishes @streathammum- we are just waiting patiently.
