Passed Wallington only - Set Scores

Hi

My son passed Wallington only with a SGS SET score of 178.
I was really hoping to get some idea of other children's scores in the same position who managed
to secure a place at Wallington. This data would really help me and others going forward.
If in the past few years your child secured a place could you please let me know their score and when they received an offer ie 1st March or a later month.
I read on another thread another parent kindly informed us that their son got an offer with a score of 188 so anything below that woukd be very useful.
Many thanks

hi ,

My DS has a SET standardised score of 182. In a similar situation trying to understand how this correlates to pass mark of 213 this year.

Thanks

I’m not completely sure, as in I’m not an expert, but this is my understanding:

I think this could be the restandardised score. Each boy gets a standardised SET score when compared to all the boys (2700?) taking the SET. The pass mark for that was 213 this year; 213.9 for Wallington Boys.

For the purposes of the second stage, their score is then compared only to the boys taking the second stage exam (around 1000) to produce a new SET score. Typically in standardisation, 100 is taken as the average for each exam and the range is typically 70-130, so if I have understood this correctly, a score of 182 seems like a strong score - below the mean but nowhere near the low end.

Thanks Oneoftwothings for stating this as strong score. I am worried because from last years and up to 2015 posts, many children have scored more than 100 in English Set alone as mentioned here https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum ... 4&start=20" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is it possible to convert the standardised score back to raw score to get an idea?Around 1050 children have passed Wallington this year and where does 182 restandardised to a value stand in the ranking?

Thanks

I wouldn’t worry about 2015 - I think the schools were still doing separate tests then, and didn’t have to pass the same numbers to fill their places. The numbers are inflated now due to several reasons, including the shared second stage.

I can’t help you work out the SET score I’m afraid. I know it’s a very long wait :(

One boy had a score of 165 last year and was offered a place in April/May - around 11th on waiting list.
Hope that helps others in a similar position.

Hi there

My son also received an email at the first stage saying he'd achieved the pass mark for admission consideration.
We didnt see his score. How did you get the score?

Many thanks!

Hi LdS

Did your son sit second stage for Sutton/Wilson’s? If a boy doesn’t pass the second stage then they get an email with the scores for set and second stage. Hope that helps

Thanks "Surrey Parents". My son did sit the second stage. I was a little confused with the OP's comment on their son passing and having the score

thanks for responding!
