School run ideas from Ealing & Hounslow to TGS

Post by SWLMum »

DD is very lucky to get the TGS offer today and we are very happy for her. Now we need to plan the route. Any parents in Ealing /Hounslow are interested in the idea of a minibus? Or any suggestions? We are not in the direct route of bus 65. Thanks very much.

Congratulations to your your DD.

Just in case it crops up or you get PMs from other parents do take a look at the FAQ on car shares https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum ... =9&t=56409" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hello SWLMum,

We have accepted the offer from TGS for my DD and we live in Twickenham. Any directions on Minivan hire/Car pool would really be helpful.

Cheers,

Hi, we are in West Ealing and also be very interested in mini bus or car pool. Would be keen to know how many other kids from the same area would be going to TGS as that would give DD a good company to travel with. She would also be joining in the Year 7 2022 intake.

As Pettswood Fiona mentioned above, here is a handy checklist if you are considering car shares.
Worth a read

• How much do you really know about the other parent from a child safeguarding point of view? (Remember, anyone working with children, e.g. bus drivers for the school service, must have a current DBS form.)

• How much do you really know about their driving skills? Have you seen their insurance and car roadworthy details? (Remember that public transport and dedicated school services are required to have these, to a high level.)

• How would you cope if your child fell out with the other children in the car pool, or wanted to do different after school activities, or didn't want to stay after school when the other children were staying late?

• How would you cope if one of the other car pool parents had their car break down, or off the road for some other reason, at short notice?

• What if it's your turn to drive, and you or your child is sick?

• What if the other family turns out to be unreliable, or the driver/their child is regularly late, or ill?

• What if the other child moves to a different school?

• What if one child needs to stay after school for an activity or event?

• What if the driver smokes when driving?

• What if the driver's conversation turns out to be objectionable or age inappropriate?

I know West Ealing is not on the direct 65 route - but this is still the best way to get to TGS from the area. Either by picking it at the Broadway having got the bus (or a cheeky lift) along the Uxbridge Road or by taking the E3 and changing at South Ealing/Popes lane crossroads. There will be other TGS pupils on the bus from the start- but inevitably only a few - but a lot more get on at South Ealing/Brentford, Kew and thereafter. Good luck and congratulations.

Thanks a lot for this and yes 65 would be ideal from South Ealing/Pope's Lane crossing. We are just trying to find out if anyone else is also taking that route from Year 7 so the girls can go together.

Also if there are group of parents keen to organise a mini bus service that would be great too.
