I do not know one boy who after joining a good choir has not loved the performance side of it. Virtually all of them did not want to join though (mine excluded). Choirs are also girl heavy and the thought of going on residential trips with them should bring him round!
My DH's old school made them all audition for the choir. In his year only two didn't make the cut. One boy who had been warned by his brother to sing badly. DH was the other let us just say he doesn't do karaoke.
