Is Habs an ideal school for my son?

Please could some parent, unbiased, tell me more about the school. I've seen the campus site and it is wonderful - but could somebody tell me more about the school (and please don't refer to the prospectus!) :)

Also, people say Habs Boys are arrogant - is this true?

Thank you very much

It would be difficult for anyone to be able to tell you which school is best for your son, as they don't know him.

You need to decide what you need in a school for your son. For my dd academic is the top criteria, so while we would prefer mixed we will go single sex To get academic, we will aso travel if we have to. We love sport and music but we will not choose it over academic because we can get it outside school. You must decide what is most important to you, is it sport, is it music, is it location, is it mixed or single sex? You also need to see lots of schools because it is like houses. It is only when you see what you don''t want that you start to really realise what you do. What makes your ds happy? Does he want to be top of the class or does he like to be challenged and have to fight for his position academically. If you want someone to tell you Habs is best then the school will do that for you. If you want someone to tell you it is not then many QE and MT mums can tell you that instead. Like a marriage partner only you can know what is right for you.

Imaginefriendly, maybe if you tell us a bit about your son and what you are looking for in a school then people on the forum may tell you a bit more about the school.

Could you also enlighten me (and maybe others) as to the proper name of the school - what is HABS ? where is it?

HABS is Haberdashers Askes Boys School. My son is very eager to learn, loves competitions and loves to compete - but not so arrogant - though he loves competitions he tends to keep a low profile.

He enjoys activities and he loves to make speeches - very popular but sometimes cheeky.

Thanks!

Sounds like some of the right ingredients, have you looked at St Albans Boys and Merchant Taylors, those seem to be the three boys schools that get linked together. I know St Albans has a great coach service all over North London and Herts.

Thanks

I would recommend MT but avoid St. Alban's. It is extremely academic and pastoral care is very low on the list of priorities. I know someone who recently lost her husband to cancer. The school called her in to complain that her son's grades had dropped (what a surprise when his dad had just died  ). She explained this to the Head and his response was "I'm not interested, I am running a school not a charity"!!!
