St Dunstan's paper

Post by Guest »

My son sat St Dunstan's exam today. Not especially stressed afterwards, thank goodness. They seem to run the day very well indeed, and keep the candidates at their ease. But something did come up which disturbed me. Apparently the verbal reasoning paper (not an NFER type) was the SAME one set by both Dulwich College and JAGS. So boys/girls who sat those tests last week had done it before! Children put their hand up during the test and told the teacher! As you can probably guess, our son hadn't done it before so he did it from scratch.

Our son thinks he did well on the VR. But presumably so did all the people who'd done it before! Not great for a system where they are competing for places. Sloppy.

Clearly noone will have been trying to remember what they did last week and trying to fill in any gaps, but it must have given a huge time advantage, which is one of the main problems with reasoning.

Bit irritated.
