The Upper Tribunal has overruled the Commission’s approach to public benefit and discredited controversial parts of its statutory guidance as “obscure” or “wrong”.

I wonder if most schools are going to stay offering bursaries?

The big schools with huge legacies will probably continue offering bursaries.

I think private schools have benefitted greatly from having bursaries instead of scholarships. Those that could pay but got a percentage off now pay and very few children who need bursaries actually apply for them so more money in the schools coffers!

Hurrah! :D :D Great news!

Of course private schools will continue to offer bursaries, just as they did before Suzi Leather's attack, but now the power to decide how much to award and to whom has been returned to the schools themselves, which is where it ought to be.

As someone with a daughter at Rugby, who passed but gave away (like a number of others) an Eleven Plus option, I think this is actually justice. I am proud to say that, had she taken up her place at Rugby High School for Girls, she would be in receipt of free school meals; whereas, in actual fact she gets both better fare and a superior academic choice - free from sour grapes!
