Interview at Kingston Grammar School

Post by munch »

DS has been called for interview at Kingston Grammar School (Indep).
Grateful for any advice or questions they tend to ask. If anyone has any experience of the school that would also be appreciated as we are not too familiar with it. Thank you. :)

The staff there are very friendly and try to put the children at ease.

In the past they have asked the usual types of questions about hobbies, favourite subject, what book are you reading, etc.

And "what other schools are you applying to"!

Good luck to your DS.

That's great; my DD has an interview there too but we don't know the date yet. I saw a thread on Mumsnet from a couple of years back where one girl was asked at her interview what she would bring to Kingston Grammar. Seems she was puzzled by this as she replied "my pencil case?" The girl got a place so I think this means it's OK to be yourself which is reassuring!

That reminds me of a headmaster at a school open day telling a father he shouldn't be asking what the school would do for his son, but what could his son give to the school. £20k a year was the very short response.

Good Luck with the interviews everyone.

Thanks for all responses. Rosette-you are spot on, I found the admission staff/secretary at this school to be genuinely lovely and helpful. Not used to that
MmeH-good luck with your DD, you should hear before us as they are interviewing the girls first as their results come out on 9/2.

DD had her interview at KGS today and it was v relaxed. Young male geography teacher was her interviewer and DD's verdict was he made the 15 mins 'a lot of fun'! No tricky questions, just favourite subjects, hobbies, did she want to ask anything..... And she wasn't asked if KGS was her favourite school or anything about any other schools she is applying for so all in all just a friendly, let's get to know each other sort of chat! Good positive experience to hopefully tide her through other interviews she has. :D
