Hi

does anyone know how the admission test for Abingdon compare to a good GS school like Reading? I read that for Reading you need to be in the top 2-5% of an age group, what is the equivalent metric for Abingdon?

Assuming for argument's sake that the 'value added'by the school is zero, looking at the 2014 GCSE results one might surmise that about 94% of the intake entered with level 5 or 6 in KS2 SATS (94.6% A* - B). If the teaching is worth paying for and the children diligent, the profile of the entrants could well be a bit more diverse.

Are you concerned that your child night not make the grade, or that they might find themselves in a school not as academically selective as you would wish?

The question is to know, should we be willing to pay this kind of money, would either/both DS be easily accepted or is that Eton level competition?
Do they need to be "bright" or "super bright"? Do they need to know latin and have rugby/rowing/cricket/theatre as hobbies to be even considered?

Just wondering (among many many other options) whether relocating there would make sense at one point (closer to work, backup school with good SEN support there for youngest). If it is very hard to get in, it would be too much of a gamble since DSs are too young yet to know what their level will be.

According to the school's website, the entrance tests for year 7 consist of English and Maths written papers and a reasoning test which is taken on screen, I think - so no, they will not expect a knowledge of Latin or anything specialised. If they did, they would test it and state that they intended to do so, so don't worry.
