Nine years ago we bought a property within walking distance of the school and our child was a baby. We were visiting the local schools and considered the school. From what we were told (on the grapevine) the school wasn't very academic but the nice grounds and location appealed to people who wanted to feel as if they are giving their children a better environment/circle of friends. It seemed that it may suit sporty but not overly academic children.

We heard that a lot of people chose it if their children didn't manage to get into some of the well regarded Chelmsford and Bishops Stortford Schools. Harlow's schools at the time had a very bad reputation. One local state primary school had a good reputation (Fawbert & Barnard - I think) so we looked at that school too.

We only lived in the area for a year and decided that suburbia wasn't for us and we relocated to Central London. Things may have changed since. From my own experience schools can change pretty quickly.

Best of luck!
