I'm sure you're home by now, but ours was in an a5 envelope...

Might have my envelope sizes muddled. Still it’s just a single piece of paper.

Thanks, it was an a3 envelope and we are grateful as my boy got an invitation for interview.

Oo now my head spins off into conspiracy theories as to what the significance of the differing envelope sizes is!

A3 is 29.7 x 42.0cm which seems unlikely!
A4 is the size of a normal piece of paper (A3 folded in half), A5 is a normal piece of paper folded in half.

Ha! You're so right, there's no way they were putting poster-sized envelopes through anyone's door. Ours was definitely A5 as to be expected.

Just seen on another thread someone say that Latymer Upper have more boys applying but accept 50:50 boys and girls, i.e. the odds are better for girls.

Does anyone know if that's true for Highgate? Or know if they have to over-offer more to girls?

I instinctively feel that this might true for two reasons. First that there are so many options for girls than there are for boys. Secondly that more parents of girls seem to be keen on single sex.

I'm just trying to gauge the odds for my daughter post interview. And whether they'll be more likely to offer a place to a summer born if they've made it this far...

Not sure if this helps....but in my opinion the 50/50 boy/girls at Highgate is a goal rather than a reality....I am aware of many classes that are boy heavy....my child's Yr8 form is 2/3rds boys.

Another interesting figure is that although they offer 180 places each year, I was surprised to discover that the current Yr8 only has 165 pupils. They definitely went to the waiting list v quickly 2 years ago &, it would seem, even then didn't fill the places - lots of other local options for girls as you say.

Many children from our local state primary have always sat the Highgate exam, it's usually well into double figures....from the results each year I would not say that they appear to over offer to girls - I am aware of girls who got into the selectives, were expected to get a Highgate place & didn't.

Only my experience but thought you might find it helpful -maybe not!

I was told that if you get an interview at Highgate, then you have a very good chance of getting in....so good luck!

Very helpful, thank you.

Do you have any idea how many applicants actually get an interview? DG
