Does anyone know what percentage of the total number of children accepted and that have started school come from private and what % from state for entrance at 11+ and 7+ (if there is a lower school like Latymer, LEH, NHE), from Putney High, LEH, Latymer Upper/Lower, SPGS (11+ only), Bute (7+ only) and Notting Hill and Ealing? Trying to figure out general chances of getting in if we did 1) 7+ and 2) 11+ if we try from a state school in West London. As I have heard from some it is almost impossible from state, from some other totally doable! We are based in the Richmond Borough.

All schools take the strongest applicants. It does not matter where they come from.

There is no reason why a state school applicant cannot do really well at the exams and interviews.

I know state schools students interviewing this week at St Pauls girls. DG

I think the proof is in the pudding, so I am looking for actual empirical evidence. The "strongest" applicants may well be the ones prepped by a private prep or tutoring, and that is what I am trying to understand. What % of children actually come from state for these schools.

I'm not sure where to find that information.
You could maybe search the independent section on this forum ( search facility above on tool bar) as I think this has been asked before.

If you get no joy from that you might be able to get the information from the schools themselves, though I am not sure if you might need to do a formal FOI request.

I would think all schools would be willing to provide this information if you contact them. I would not expect to find it online anywhere - you can see that the percentage would change a fair bit each year depending on who applies.

agree with the above, ask the schools. I know that CLS boys take quite a few from state schools. It's all about how they perform on the exam days at the end. And don't assume that a prep school is enough, tutoring on top is quite common in this part of London.

Your intuition that numbers to SPGS from state school are very low is actually right. If you add up all the girls who get in from prep school, the number of places remaining for state school applicants is actually quite low. Even from most prep schools, at the most one child will make it. If you add up the places taken up by girls from Bute House / Kensington Prep / Falkner House / Glendower Prep, and then look at all the prep schools that will send 1-2 girls to St Paul's, it looks like a maximum of 20% could come from state school at SPGS. That said, I think the percentage of state school pupils at Putney High, NHEH or Latymer Upper is much higher.

You have some data on SPGS and Latymer Upper feeder preps here and that gives you an idea of the numbers:

To know the answer to the question you would need to know the number of applicants from state/private sector as well as the number of successful applicants from each.
I would hazard a guess (and it would only be a guess) that the numbers applying from the state sector would be dwarfed by those from the private sector. I would further guess that the numbers offered a place might be more proportionate than the numbers entering would appear at first glance.

Thanks all for the responses so far. @no_stress that is a very clever way of looking at it. You can get a good idea of the % for 11+ that way, thanks for the tip. 7+ seems to be more "opaque".... I am interested in 7+ also as it feels like the prep school advantage may be less relevant although I may be wrong?
