So it rather depends on whether, as a result of what he said, the school would a) revise downwards their opinion of how clever your DS is (bad), or b) immediately move him to the top of the list, since he's not going to get QE with that score, even if he serms pretty bright to them, so you'll bite their hands off for a HABS place (good)?

Exactly Toadmum. If my ds was interviewed I would prep him to make an announcement in front of other candidates as well as staff that he had aced the QE exam and got 100% in all papers.
Alternatively you could just not bother with the QE exam at all and just lie about scoring top marks. What an easy life.
