They don't seem to be much easier anymore - 2000 sitting for 186 places at Latymer & 900 for 80 places at Highgate....there's really not much in it!
I’m sure someone who knows better will correct me but I think Latymer was more like 2,400 this year. And Highgate will make at least 160 offers...so I suppose it depends how far below 186 Latymer goes (but most years not much below). So I would bet on 160/900 more than 200/2400...

I assume you are referring to Latymer Upper. Latymer grammar has 192 places.

No, I did mean Latymer grammar - the previous post before mine referred to the N London grammar schools being much easier to get into than the Indies.

186 or 192, not much difference....it was 186 2 years ago when my child sat, I thought the 192 figure included music places. 2 years ago someone claimed 3000 sat that year for Latymer it was actually 2003 children sitting.

Thanks for clarifying that sla212. I agree the numbers applying for grammar schools can be exaggerated by some, especially if their child is successful.

What I find amazing in London is the number of parents who have outstanding comprehensive schools practically on their doorstep, but will only list grammar schools on their CAF. It is as though there is something "shameful" in sending your child to a non-selective school. The obsession with league tables and the numbers getting Oxbridge offers is rife; as that is all that defines a good school.
