Hi Hopingforsuccess,Hopingforsuccess wrote:Ds has invited for a callback session but also has a meeting with head of English. Can anyone please give some insight on what to expect?
First of all, congratulations to your DS !
Few boys who are borderline in a subject will have an additional callback session with the Head of department. Nothing to worry. your DS would have done very well in Maths, VR and in the interview.
School knows that given the age of the children going through the strenuous process, they may miss here and there. When the overall performance is upto the mark and when they are borderline in one of the subjects, school do give them another opportunity and speak to the child. That's the best thing about this school.
The whole environment is quite friendly and they make every effort to put the child at ease. All your DS has to do now is to relax and take his time to think and answer the question. If he could recollect the comprehension given in the test and think of similes, metaphors etc, that might help. No need to really worry even if he is not able to recollect. This session will last for 10 minutes or so.
My DS joined Year 7 (First form) in Sep 2019. Last year same time he too attended a callback session.During the test, he could not answer two questions to their satisfaction. Hence he was quizzed about those two questions. He answered well and secured a firm offer. The callback sessions are today and tomorrow.
You are almost there ! Wishing your DS all success !

Do you have a feel for how many borderline candidates are invited back?
Is it perhaps a couple each day or more like double figures?
This morning the Head stated that just over 300 sat the exam and 201 were called back with 72 places on offer.
201 out of 300 seems very high so are they really going to add more by adding the borderline candidates to the total number? DG

I suppose it is possible that the borderline candidates are including in the 200 - don't know how many offers per place they make, 2:1 maybe?

From the headteacher's speech, 201 includes the borderline candidates.

Hi everyone, yes 201 call-backs including borderline cases, I understood. If they offer similar to Merchants, I think someone said, based on a 36% uptake, 72 places. Open to being wrong of course. They were put through a lot, most of Y6 work already and long day of tests plus call-backs but well worth it, everything crossed, such a lovely school.
