Is there any point in doing Bond papers for English?

I have regularly read that Bond assessment papers are not adequate for the top tier schools? Is their value mainly in teaching the technical components of English and honing SPAG- and therefore maybe a good foundation in Yr4? If one then concentrated on past papers in Yr5, could not the SPAG be assessed and worked on as issues arise? Interested to hear how parents/tutors feel about them.

We did DIY prep and used them in Y4 (age appropriate) to build a foundation and early in Y5 to test knowledge of the basics. The 10 minute tests were good bitesize pieces of work for daily practice. But we were going for superselective grammar so we had to find more difficult papers to ramp up for the last 6 months. Looking at the practice material on grammar and indie websites, it is much more difficult than Bond, so do check your local school and prepare accordingly. Good luck
