London independent schools & Scholarships

Post by dhanepud »

Hi ,

I want to know how much scholarship (not the Bursary that is income based) do the Independent schools offer. For example, how much scholarship do students actually get at St Pauls/Westminster/Habs/Merchant Taylor ?
Hear lot of 'talks' that schools give more than 50% or so and so DC got 100%, but the school websites do not mention that number?
Most of the schools says 10-20% academic, 10% music / arts / sports / drama / debate. But I doubt one single child can get all of it to get total scholarship > 50%.

Thank you!

Most scholarships will only be 10-20% - some pupils get bursaries on top and may say they got a 50-100% scholarship - there are few if any non means-tested large scholarships around

Quite a few schools put much of their scholarship money into bursary funds

Scholarship fund is not much at all. This year majority is giving between 7-10%. Some schools give book vouchers etc as well.

Academic scholarship at City boys is £250 as well. As rightly pointed out, the focus is on bursaries for schools rather than scholarships

To be clear, the Queens Scholarship at Westminster is as follows:

For 13+ entrants, the fee for a Queen’s Scholar is set at 80% of the full boarding fee and for 16+ entrants, the fee is set at 60% of the full boarding fee until 2024 entry, at which point it will move to the same level of remission as for 13+ entry. The Governing Body reviews school fees annually by the end of the summer term, for publication by early July.

HMC Code of Conduct sets the maximum value of an academic scholarship at 50%. Bursaries can be up to 100% of fees and it's possible for schools to combine an academic scholarship with a bursary.

Up in Liverpool/ the North West it is in the 10-20% region, with 10% being more typical.
