Just look at the posts on this forum. People are alsways asking where they can get past papers, and talking about revision and so on. And lots of people make a good lifing from SATS coaching.

Madness.

Whoopsie  Do you mean me ? although I have to say I've taken your advice on board and haven't coached my yr 6 boy ( only my yr 4 boy and yr 2 girl) :)

DS has reported back that he has found it all easy but he said that at the beginning of 11 plus prep when he was flippantly misreading the questions and consequently scoring 25 %

Its a worrying trend about science, my DD told me she hasnt done any science in ages (last she remembers was in Jan) which is such a shame that schools are just drilling maths and english because of sats.
To be fair to DD's school, I don't think they have been just drilling maths and english because of Sats - they've done lots of lovely things this year; they've learnt how to waltz, written poems, dressed up, studied geography and history - all part of their 'theme' for this year. They just didn't remember to work any science into the topic and then when they exam loomed they suddenly had them all building electrical circuits and trying to remember back to year 4 when they did condensation and evaporation.

Slightly off original thread but in reply to the science bit. My DSs primary school has every Thursday - all morning dedicated to science and related homework every week. It works really well and is usually pretty practical too. They have 3 teachers for the top class (Y5 and Y6 together) One does 3 days and covers the literacy and lots of other things inc Italian, the head specialises in maths so on her day she does lots of maths, covers all the x tables well and a third teacher does all the science and art or DT on her day. The teachers are all great and seem to work well together and the pupils seem to get the different strengths of each. They each set a good weekly homework - maths, eng, science and it gets marked straight away too probably because it is shared out. I know this would not be possible everywhere but working 1, 2 or 3 days per week with a good chance of some cover seems like a great option for teacher/ parents and I think it is great for the top class to have a taste of more than 1 teacher especially if they are particularly skilled in a subject. From what I can tell the children seem to benefit with the more able at L5 in year 5 and the school is not SAT crazy at all, in fact they boycotted SATs last year. Hope all the tests went well for any of your Y6 DCs this week. It's over now so lots of fun stuff ahead :D

So that was Key Stage 2 SATs - the words 'damp squib' spring to mind.
I was in school this afternoon and none of the children seemed remotely bothered by the whole thing - which is exactly how it should be.

Now, I suspect, they'll start teaching them some Science. :D

I told my DD that SATs were a measure of her school and not her, so forget about them... don't worry... just do your best and who cares...

(Let's remember, when you are applying for a job as an adult, no-one ever asks for your SAT results!)

DD was chilled in the extreme. Very confident as been 5a maths and English for ages now, and as a reward has to do extra SAT level 6 English and Maths net week. Apparently government now wants to give kids the chance to get level 6 again in Year 6. Has no real standing but looks good on the school's report and OFSTED etc... So what is the point of these exams we put our DC's through?

Our DD has done absolutely no preparation for anything since the 11 plus. Except violin practice which is currently being rigidly enforced because of approaching exam and no will to practise. I've told DD that I'll give her £200 if she gets a distinction, but happily my money's extremely safe, since it's not looking like she's going to pass at the moment and the ear plugs are getting a lot of use.

Anyway, the teacher kindly told the class about 2 weeks ago that after the "normal" SATs she would be choosing children to do extra level 6 SATs.

My DD was much more worried that she wouldn't be selected to do the level 6 SATS and consequently gave no thought at all to the other ones. Seemed to enjoy the writing/reading ones but said she "nearly cried" in the level 6 maths, as everybody else seemed to find it really easy.

All over now - it's GCSEs next...
