So does this mean that the english ks2 sats done around April 2012 will not be fully independently verified?

so it will become a game of influencing teachers perceptions by parents?

What are ks2 sats relevant for? most selective schools will use their own 11+ exams or do a new assessment at the start of term...

KS2 tests (not SATS!) will still take places externally marked for reading and maths and this new test.

The writing, I understand, will be moderated but this must be better than teaching children to write to a mark scheme which is a lottery.

What does being moderated mean? I thought from 2012 the writing paper at KS2 will be marked by teachers instead of being marked externally.

Moderated means that teachers might need to take a sample to a local meeting - this happens at KS1 to check accuracy.

So does this mean the same teacher that does the marking actually selects the sample or does this sample need to be independently taken?

If it's the teacher her/himself, this must be open to abuse?

Not sure what you mean about writing to a mark scheme?

You can have a look at previous mark schemes here http://www.markschemes.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks, the marking scheme is fairly clear. :D

Interesting to find that bad spelling does not seem to be considered in a free writing task... Or did I misread it?

There was a separate spelling test.
