DIY Material for SAT KS2

Post by Sonia »

Hi All,

Extremely thankful to this wonderful forum as daughter passed 11+

As we are new to the ducation system I have heard parents discussing abt SAT papers in May 2013.

Kindly if Moderators/ Seniors can advise me some DIY material for SAT

SAT results matters in childs future educational decison making.

What are the total scores and what score/grade is considererd good/excellent.

Regards

If your daughter has passed the 11+ and is going to a grammar school then it is not necessary to worry about the KS2 SATS - let her enjoy year 6, the scores don't matter. My DD's school did do them and it has not made any difference at GS

Congratulations to her!

They don't matter a bit to your child now she has the 11+ behind her. Their only relevance is to the school's position in the league tables.

Her future grammar school will take virtually no interest in her SATs results at all (they probably won't even find out what they are!), and they will put her through their own baseline tests in her first term there. Those are usually CATs and you should do no tuition for them.

Relax, and let her enjoy the rest of her time in Year 6!

Sorry I have to disagree with Hermann and Sally-Anne. Secondary schools DO get the KS2 test levels and indeed the actual SCORE.

Since Secondary schools are judged on progress and getting more than expected progress a level 5 has to get at least a grade A at GCSE. If you go with a level 4 then a grade B is considered 'better progress than expected' so it is in your child's interests to go with level 5s.

Yes but they won't push so hard for an A and, indeed the target won't be an A, if you go with level 4s.

Aha - doomed for ever more if you can't produce Level 5 in Y6?

You will have to work very hard to convince me of that!

DC's schools didn't do them. So no scores passed on - haven't a clue what level they were at, they passed the 11 plus and that was enough. They had some assessment in the first year (along with everyone else) and the targets were set from those (incorrectly I have to say  )

I know non selective schools get sats results but do gs's get them too?

At our chosen gs, girls are streamed alphabetically, not according to their sats results - as far as I know.
