If my dd has achieved a level 6 in anything, I will eat my hat.

I think about twenty dc sat level 6 English, Spag and Maths (out of seventy dc). I would guess the top five might pass. She didn't find any level 6's easy, but there again, I suppose nobody should find it easy.

She has no science so she's had 11 exams done over four days. Now however she's done, no more exams until September. Hurray! I don't care if she's got level 4's. Although she will ... :( now she can relax and enjoy the rest of her time at junior school.

I agree with DG. It's very difficult for a child to judge whether or not they have done well in a L6 paper as they won't necessarily be aware of all that is required or have the ability to express their ideas in a way that is expected. I hope no allowances are made for the fact that these are 10 and 11-year olds, otherwise some parents will believe that their children have actually reached a L6 standard. I refuse to believe that even with all the last-minute coaching that there are any genuine L6ers in English. Maybe one ...

As far as I am aware that for any DCs who got level 6 maths and English just means that they are above level 5A and is current working within level 6. This is different from the level 6A, B and C awarded for KS3.

A KS2 level six means the child is a level 5* - there's just NO comparison to KS3 level 6!

I so wish they had called it 5A* - just storing up trouble.

Or they could make it a 'real' level 6 test?

My DS has been doing KS3 level 6-8 papers for the last term or so and achieving Level 6 comfortably. So in his case, I am confident that his maths is 'really' level 6 (at least).

It's not his fault that the KS2 papers aren't testing at this level!

The thresholds aren't announced until after the tests (usually not until early July). Last year's (including the 3-5 thresholds) can be found here. For the 2012 tests the level 6 thresholds were 19/30 for English Reading and 34/50 for maths.

These tests are at least 5 years old and very out of date; they always over levelled too!

The marks needed for a level 6 on these papers were very very low ...

So how are levels assessed in KS3 now?
