Thanks for all your responses. Spoke to his teacher who told me that they rarely give level 5 in the school & that she was doing very well. That was it!
Will ask if she could have sat the level 5 paper in English & will see what she says.

My child had the same experience in Y4 ( now Y5 ). At the end of Y4, DC was give mainly 4a (except for one). Teacher said DC is L5 but they don't award it at Y4, I assume because they have not covered the materials. I thought, that's fair enough. The gave him L5s by the end of the first term of Y5.
