Sitting 11+ when in process of moving primary schools

We have moved house and applied for a In_Year admission in a different borough. Not too sure if there are no spaces, but relying on our communication with the LA Admissions team so far they are keen to not allocate spaces for DC in the local school and are asking us to travel to the old one. The distance is 2.8 miles and there is no direct transport. Both DH and I are working in The City and my mother-in-law who is looking after the children is elderly and will be unable to make a journey of about 40 minutes 4 times each day. I am thinking to de-register DC from their old school and go ahead with home tutoring until spaces are allocated. DS will be sitting 11+ tests on 12th and 16th September. If he is without a school is this going to take effect on his application/results etc. please?

I am not keen to do this, but the new LA does not seem to understand that this journey is too complicated for us and I am forced to think that if they are without school LA have to find them a school.

Has the new LEA offered you no school at all, or just not the one you want? If you fulfil the criteria for a school and there are places available in the relevant year groups, I'm not sure that they can refuse your application, but you need to look carefully at the LEA's 'rules'. Could there be an issue with the proximity of the current school?

If you are both at work all day, how would you actually home educate? I know that there are people who argue that e.g.the LEA shouldn't be allowed to 'interfere' in what one is doing in the name of home education, but you have a duty to provide some kind of actual education rather than just deregistering them from school. As for the 11+, though, this shouldn't make any difference, as there are bound to be other DC taking it who are home educated.
