I just assumed the cutoff for the highter level was a scaled score of 110 every year as the info from DSs school was for this year!

110 appears to be a constant as when you click on the ? on the 2017 league tables it gives 110 stating that is was first set in 2016 as rhiane has pointed out. I do like to understand the numbers even when they make no difference to anything

I can't work out how to get to 2016 on the goverment school performance site but i found the following here (DofE site)

"We have set the threshold for a high score in 2016 at 110. Achievement of a high score is highest in grammar, punctuation and spelling at 23% and lowest in mathematics at 17%. The percentage of pupils working at greater depth in writing is 15%"

It is possible that the higher level threshold may change from year to year but it was set at a scaled score of 110 for 2016 and 2017 (no point checking before that as I think 2016 was the first year of the new SATs?)

It makes sense that the raw score to scaled score would differ each year but a fair chance the higher level scaled score of 110 would remain the same ( I may be wrong!!)

Yes - it probably will but I'm waiting to see an official Government post about it. Perhaps you can ask the school where they got the information?

The info was on some paperwork we were given after a SATs presentation back in March, it included the SATs week timetable, maths equip needed, timings, a few examples and some general info etc

As a scaled score of 100 (Achieved the National Standard) is a set score I very much doubt the 110 will change, a bit like the 111/121 Slough/Bucks qualifying score is a set level.

Hopefully DS will get his hard copy results today (or maybe not as the Y6s are at Legoland today) we were told that there would be info on LA/National % of pupils achieving expected standard, not sure if it will also have the % of higher level and the cutoff? (probably not)

To be honest it's not an issue for me, I'm happy to wait and see if the higher level cutoff changes, I just replied on this thread with the info I have and my own opinion, if it moves up or down it's not a big deal.

If your DC got 120 that is excellent! (actually a perfect score) well done to him/her

"The range of scaled scores available for each KS2 test is the same as set in 2016 and is intended to stay the same in future years. 80 is the lowest scaled score that can be awarded, 120 is the highest scaled score"
It really wouldn't make sense to change the higher level cutoff.

To be frank, after years of governments saying children should be average or above, I have given up trying to guess what they mean.

I don’t understand SATS at all. DD has come home with a report saying 120 in SPAG 118 in reading and 110 in maths. I see from previous posts that those are good marks? But how many children achieve that sort of score? Is there any way of knowing?

Does it matter? She has done well
