?Is this one paper? Each written paper is out of 40 and the 'mental maths is out of 20 making a total of 100 marks.

30/40 is borderline level 5 -

it was one practice paper that daughter did at school today, she said she remembers doing mental maths last week but can't remember if they were told score for that.

I believe it varies slightly each year but it is usually over 79 out of 100 (there being 2 tests of 40 and the mental test out of 20).

There is a paper (using a calculator) which totals 40 points, a paper without a calculator totalling 40 points and a further paper testing mental arithmatic with accounts for 20.

If your child achieved 30/40 that represents 75% which is not far off a Level 5.

Level Threshold Tables and Age Standardisation scores are avilable from the QCA Web Site at http://www.qca.org.uk/libraryAssets/med ... 05_wo1.pdf

There is more explanation of levels and how these have varied year on year at :-
http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_11983.aspx

Hope this helps

Many thanks for all your replies, I will have a good look at the links also.

so, to be level 5 you need to get 79 out of 100 for all three papers?

Daughter has told me that they are going to bring home the test papers to show parents, so I will have a better idea then. Just being a bit impatient!

thanks again

The threshold varies slightly from year to year - see the QCA link above - aim for 80% or so.
