APPEAL!

Post by daljit »

HI,
the appeals thread has been very helpful i have been sitting back and following everyones great advice. a BIG THANKS to you all....
BUT:
our sons appeal is next week (trying to stay calm!).
one of the teachers from our sons school has offered to come with us, is it worth taking her? (she's his math teacher, this is his strongest subject)
DS has not got a GS due to oversubscription and distance, he did well in both 11+ tests he sat.

good luck to all that are appealing.

Dear Dal

I think it rather depends on what she's going to say.

For example, if the secondary school has a strong Maths department (perhaps even specialises in the subject), and she's coming along to say that in her judgement this school would best meet your son's needs, that would be very useful.

Or if she's coming along to say that your son particularly needs the support of friends who will be joining the school (because he's been bullied in the past, or for whatever reason), that too would be fine.

You need to look at the arguments you will be putting forward, and decide whether her evidence will add weight to them.

If she's just coming along to say what a nice boy he is, it probably won't serve any useful purpose.

Good luck for next week.

Hi Eitenne,

As you know we are not appealing on ability, we have plenty of school reports and letters from both head teachers (previous school) saying that DS is predicted high 5's in his core subjects.

Therefore we have decided not to take the teacher with us, she will/can only say about his ability.
the poor pannel must get sick of hearing about all the fab kids.

we will try to keep our appeal to the point!
i'm so worried.

thanks for your avice
