In Year Appeal

We are preparing an in year appeal to a local single sex community school. Looking at data for the past 3 years PAN is consistently less than IAN and the published reason is "An increase would compromise equal opportunity principles in terms of equality of access to single sex provision". Can anyone please explain what this means to a confused lay person!

Hello, ShadowCat

I think I know which school you're appealing for, and it appears that the PAN is 5 below what it might otherwise be in the interests of "equality".

I've discussed your question with WP. There's some matching of boys' and girls' places going on in Herts., but we can't work out which boys' school is being matched with the school you're appealing for! We'll come back to you if we have any further thoughts.

You can certainly ask for an explanation at stage 1 of your appeal.

Meanwhile, do focus on stage 2 (your reasons for wanting a place) because that is where most appeals are won or lost.

Good luck
